Marilyn Lucille Stevens Maness, age 77 and a long time resident of Fallbrook, CA. passed away to be with our lord on June 29th 2013. Marilyn was born in San Diego, CA in 1935 and was the daughter of deceased parents Chesley and Lucille Stevens.
Marilyn graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA in 1953 and proceeded on to attend a Business Trade School which started her basic training in managing and running a business. Upon completing school she flourished as a professional business executive and co-owner of Maness Industries with her husband Kenny for 40+ years.
Marilyn married Kenny Maness in 1954. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary July 10th, 2013. Marilyn and husband Kenny started their 1st business enterprise, Maness excavating, in 1964. They grew their business empire, Maness Industries, throughout the next 40 years until they retired to Fallbrook, CA. where they have resided the last 28 years.
Marilyn was a loving mother to two sons, Kennith Perry Jr. and Kevin Maness. She was also a professional business woman and a pioneer of the 60’s by proving she could and would successfully manage her family and have a very successful and fulfilling business career. Thank you Marilyn for opening those opportunities to all future generations of woman, you did it all and we love you for it!
Marilyn was also the matriarch of the Maness family. She continued to manage the “family business” and important decisions while she tried to retire in Fallbrook. She had this “control and decision making issue” going on, as Kenny many times referred to. She could not quite relieve herself entirely from her 40+ years of managing the family business(s).
Marilyn’s self passion and hobbies included oil painting, organic vegetable gardening and rescuing dogs from the local animal shelters and supporting the humane society. She loved her animals and they all loved her. Horses and dogs equally.
Marilyn & Kenny had many memorable travel experiences which they both loved sharing with family and friends. They traveled much of the USA, took an African Safari, toured Europe, parts of the Middle East, Australia and Marilyn always loved her cruises to unwind and as she would say “recharge her batteries”.
During the last few years she found pleasure in “relieving her life stresses” by making weekly trips to the local casino where she loved to play Keno and visit with her local & regular gambling acquaintances.
Surviving family members include husband of 59 years Kenny Maness, son Kennith Perry Jr. & fiancée Desiree, son Kevin and spouse Sandra. Three grandchildren: Shea, Austin and McKenzie. Other surviving family members include nephews Kent, Keith and niece Kathy Stevens all residing in Oregon. Best friend forever Merle Geraths and Marilyn’s loving dog Bodie who will miss her love and constant affection.
A memorial service and celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on July 13,2013 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park & Sanctuary at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA. at 1:00 P.M. Phone number for directions is (760)-754-6600. A celebration reception will be held immediately following the service at the Maness residence in Fallbrook, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made “in memory of Marilyn Maness” to the animal rescue fund in care of the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary, PO Box 159, Fallbrook, CA. 92028. For further information on this memorial fund please call (760)-685-3533.
