December 11, 1950 (San Diego, CA) – June 4, 2022 (Vista, CA)
VISTA, CA – God called ‘Mr. Mikey’ home after enduring years of declining heart related issues. Mike was born in San Diego, CA to Ruben and Frieda Asmus and lived in Lakeside, CA and La Mesa, CA with his brother Monte and his sister Sharon. In 1957, Mike’s mother married Jack Peacock and moved to Odessa, TX. In 1965, the Peacocks moved to Encinitas, CA with a new baby, Kathy Peacock and 14 year old Mike. After the 1976 death of Frieda, Jack and 11 year old Kathy moved from La Mesa, CA to Mt. Pleasant, TX. In 1969, Mike graduated from San Dieguito High School and began his career working in the North County area for Safeway and Vons until reluctantly retiring in 2007 with a cancer scare. Mike was predeceased by Ruben, Frieda, Monte, Jack and is survived by sister-in-law Faye Asmus, Sharon (Asmus) Bowen, Kathy (Peacock) Whiteley, cousins, nieces, nephews and car buff friends. Throughout his life, Mike had an insatiable love for foreign, domestic, stock, hot rod cars, speed, horsepower and could research, repair, rebuild, paint and improve just about anything pertaining to them. He always asked the question, “What if I try this?” He was very detail oriented, intelligent, quiet, patient and methodical. Mike was a proud member of the ‘Light’em Up Street Rod Club’ in Vista. He also was a huge animal lover. Mike’s ashes are placed in the Ossuary, Memory Garden, Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside, CA. Feel free to “Light’em Up” one more time in Mike’s honor.
