

Olga "Ollie" Marie MacDonald OCEANSIDE -- Olga "Ollie" Marie MacDonald, devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at her home after a long illness. During the past year, her granddaughter, Jamie Stephens Arnold and husband, Shawn Arnold, comforted Ollie with unconditional loving care 24 hours a day. Ollie is survived by her three children, Bruce MacDonald and wife Cindy, Barbara Mayo and Aaron Croy, Scott MacDonald and wife Pam; six granddaughters, Brooke DeAngelis and husband Tom, Kelly Walsh and husband Jeff, Jamie Arnold and husband Shawn, Andrea MacDonald, Ashley Ruby, and Roxanne MacDonald; and eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole, and Brandon Stephens, Emily and Shawn Arnold, Jr., Brayden DeAngelis, and Mason and Dylan Walsh. Ollie was born in Lajas, Puerto Rico, on May 10, 1923, and was raised in New York City. While in high school, she met and soon married her sweetheart, John "Jack" K. MacDonald. They were married for 54 years until Jack passed away in 1996. Being a military family, Jack and Ollie moved to Oceanside in 1954. In 1956, Ollie joined the Oceanside Police Department as a unit secretary. Shortly thereafter, she became Oceanside's first woman police detective. Throughout her career, dealing mainly with abused children, battered women, and domestic violence, Ollie touched the lives of many in the community. Ollie was an accomplished doll collector who restored and made antique porcelain dolls; she loved to read and was an expert seamstress. She spent many weekends with Jack at their cabin in Big Bear fishing and enjoying the beauty of their second home, Camelot. Ollie lived a full, long, and beautiful life with great accomplishments. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054. Viewing will be on Monday, January 11, 2010, from 4 to 8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 12th, at 10 am, followed by interment at Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside.
