

Raymond Reyes Sanchez was born on May 14, 1928 in Colorado City, Texas. His parents, Luis and Candelaria Sanchez, moved their family to Oceanside when he was nine years old. Ray had six brothers and one sister: Tony, Luis, Ted, Emma, Henry, Joe and Uvaldo. He helped to support his family by working in the fields alongside his father.
Ray was drafted into the Army and served his country for two years during the Korean War. He was a Civil Service worker at Camp Pendleton for 36 years as a Lumberyard Inspector and retired in 1988.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Rosemary, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Ray was a loving father to his four daughters: Nancy, Lori, Judy and Diana and was blessed with seven grandchildren: Michael, Tisha, Heather, Jennifer, Antonio, Austin and Taylor. They will carry on his legacy with his three great grandchildren: Alicia, Ashai and Jayden.
Ray was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, fishing and watching the boxing fights with his brothers and nephews. He was a member of the Latin American Golf Club and the G.I. Forum. One of his greatest accomplishments was building his family home, which took three years to complete.
A devoted catholic, Ray was very involved with St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. He was an usher and belonged to the Knights of Columbus where he served as Forth Degree, Grand Knight.
Ray passed away peacefully at his home on October 7, 2016, at the age of 88. Viewing and Rosary will be held at Eternal Hills Mortuary on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm, with Rosary recited at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10 am followed by graveside ceremony at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
