On April 2nd, Scott Lyle Johnson left this life behind to go explore what lies beyond it. He was hospitalized on March 20th with pneumonia, brought on by underlying health conditions including a long-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Scott was born October 22nd, 1947, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Morris Lyle Johnson and Jean Willett Johnson. The family grew to include Scott’s sisters, Barbara Johnson (Warner) and Judy Johnson, to whom Scott was an endless source of entertainment, ideas, and misadventures. In 1957 the Johnsons moved to San Diego, eventually making their home in Vista. Scott was a graduate of Vista High School (1965) and Palomar College. He married Beverly Pegg in 1968; though their marriage ended some years later, they remained closely connected in raising a beloved daughter, Robyn Johnson. Robyn and Beverly were part of a supportive family circle surrounding Scott, which included Robyn’s four children, Adam Lefebvre, Jessica Long, Joseph Trautman and Anthony Trautman, and great granddaughters Mckenzie Lefebvre and Aaliyah Guillen.
Scott was a long-time employee at Leslie Manufacturing in San Marcos, where he was known for spotting ways to simplify or improve production processes. He genuinely enjoyed what he did and the people with whom he worked.
His curiosity and abilities made Scott a life-long learner, ready to try his hand at a range of skills. He was a skilled photographer, rock climber, and loved playing guitar, eventually learning to handcraft his own. He was a dedicated angler who knew every obscure fishing hole in San Diego County, and crafted elegant bamboo fishing poles and trout flies. He was also skilled at lifelong friendship, enjoying the company, accomplishments and memories shared with a core group of friends known since they were teenagers. Undoubtedly, Scott’s most heartfelt passion was being a good father to his daughter and grandfather to her family. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
Scott’s family suggests donations to the Parkinsons Foundation in his memory.
