Thomas Taylor passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015, surrounded by family. Tom was a loving husband, dedicated father, and cherished grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Tom was born on January 1st, 1931 and grew up in Chicago, with two sisters and one brother. When he was 18 he joined the Marine Corps and served for over 20 years. He went on two tours in Viet Nam, received numerous medals, and achieved the rank of captain. His area of expertise was telecommunications, and he continued in this field even after he retired from the military. He worked for Solar in San Diego, and then for UC Irvine, where he retired from his career.
Tom married the love of his life, Donna Sahr, in November of 1958, and they were married for 53 happy years. They had three daughters, Vicki, Tracy and Susan, all who currently live nearby. Tom loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always there to welcome a new birth at the hospital, eagerly awaiting a new bundle of joy to hold in his arms. In his free time, Tom liked to collect coins, garden, and read the newspaper. He loved to take his grandchildren out to breakfast to his favorite local restaurants. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
At first glance Tom appeared quiet, but he was charming, witty, and loved to share his sense of humor. He always made people smile. Tom was a warm and caring man, and was loved by all who met him. He will forever be in our hearts.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16th, from 4:00-8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, April 17th at 10:00 am. Both services will be held at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside.
