Wendy Marquardt (nee Hull) passed away peacefully, June 10th, 2015 at the age of 90, at her daughter Janine Thorp’s home. Wendy was born in Essex and grew up in Dorset in the south of England. An ambulance driver during WWII in England, she often transported wounded POWs on her own; she followed that up as a Red Cross volunteer at Camp Pendleton during the processing of refugees from Vietnam. The highlight of her work at Camp Pendleton was a citation from the Brigadier General Paul Graham as Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator; he noted her vivacious personality; she said she felt most alive during those periods of service. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Marquardt, a WWII veteran from Chicago; they met while he was stationed in the UK. She became a GI bride flying to the US after the war, where they married in Maryland, living in Chicago for a short while until the death of her parents prompted their return to the UK where they lived for over 20 years. They were preceded in death by two of their four children, Sharon Peters (nee Marquardt) and Darryl Marquardt. She is survived by two daughters, Janine Thorp and Lynne Widdison and grandchildren Justin, Kieran and Gareth Thorp, and Sarah, Andrew and Nicholas Peters and son-in-laws Nigel Thorp, Malcolm Widdison and Scott Peters, brother Peter Hull, nieces Sarah Hull and Lisa Hill of London, England and granddaughter Shirley of Bristol England.
