

Surviving is his wife Hilda Jane Barr; his children Elizabeth “Betsy” Barr, Matthew (Stephanie) Barr, Daniel (Marilyn) Barr of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Adam Barr, Morgan Barr, Valerie (Anthony) Matos, Brittaney (Kaleb) Bertrand, Felicia Barr, Elizajane Hamilton, Rachael Barr, Eddie Barr & Matthew Barr; step-grandchildren Kelsie Matthews & Hailey Matthews; great-grandchildren Aiden Barr, Kaleb Barr and Rush Matos; a brother Joseph “Gus” (Cheryl) Barr, Peter Barr & Michael Barr all of Ogdensburg; a sister Molly (Doug) Ferris of Ogdensburg; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Thomas & Leona; a son Edmund Barr; brothers William, John “Buck”, Thomas & Frank Barr; and sister’s Jeannine McEwen & Judy Paquette.
Daniel was born on July 24, 1935 in Ogdensburg, a son of Thomas “Ansty” & Leona (Kiah) Barr. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued his education at Canton ATC later in life. He was later married to Hilda Jane Peck on June 1, 1957.
During his career he worked construction on the St. Lawrence Seaway from 1955 – 1959, and later retired as the Superintendent of the Ogdensburg Armory after 35 years serving from 1959 – 1994. Dan also served as a member of the New York State Army National Guard as an Artilleryman Battery B, 186th Field Artillery Battalion, and 27th Armored Division from 1955 – 1959. He also attained the rank of Major within the Headquarters 10th Brigade New York Guard from 1989-1999.
Dan was a published poet and a master’s level bridge player. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, summers on the St. Lawrence River and time spent with his family. He was also a member of the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge and Cranberry & Stillwater Hunting Clubs.
