Jean F. Skidds, age 100, of Ogdensburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Ogdensburg Cemetery.
Jean was born on May 5, 1925, in the Town of Oswegatchie, the daughter of the late Enos and Thelma (Middlemiss) Smithers. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and later married the love of her life, Ralph C. Skidds, on January 1, 1950, in Amityville, Long Island. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and caring for those around them.
Throughout her life, Jean was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Over the years she worked at Pilgrim State Hospital and later at WT Grant, the Ogdensburg Creamery, Diamond National, and Acco Brands, where she remained until her retirement in 2000. In between her working years, she devoted herself to raising her family and creating a warm and welcoming home.
Jean found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed watching television, caring for her beloved pets, and most of all spending time with her family. Her quiet kindness, gentle spirit, and devotion to those she loved will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was also a faithful member of the Ogdensburg Methodist Church.
Jean is survived by her son, James (Michele) Skidds of Ogdensburg; her grandchildren, Laurie Bevins, John Skidds, Michael Skidds, and Brian Skidds; her great-grandchildren, Brody Wilcox and Janelle Philips; a sister Bethany Wyatt and her brother, Quinton “Michael” Smithers. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 1998; her son, Roger; seven sisters, June Hazelton, , Arlene Adams, Louise LaFave, Betty Simpson, Eunice Curry, and Beverly Gladle; six brothers, Donald, Delmar, David, Vernon, Ellis, and George Smithers; and two half-brothers, Guy and Wendell Harper.
Jean’s family would like to thank all those who offered care, kindness, and support to her throughout her life.
