A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Katherine “Kit” Kiah, age 83 of Ogdensburg, will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday (Apr 4, 2018) at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (Apr 3, 2018) from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Kiah entered into heaven surrounded by her loving family on Monday (Mar 26th).
Surviving are her daughters & their husbands Kathy (Robert) Joeckel of Baldwinsville NY, Sue LeBeau of Virginia Beach VA, Connie (Tom) DuPré of Alexandria VA, Karen (Pete) O’Donnell of Las Vegas NV and Peggy (Dan) Montgomery of Las Vegas NV; grandchildren Caitlin Joeckel, Ryan Joeckel, Sarah (Brian) Latuga, CJ (Mandy) LeBeau, Jackson LeBeau, Sam LeBeau, Nicholas (Breana) DuPré, Tyler (Lindsey) DuPré, MaryElizabeth O’Donnell, Aimee (Patrick) Thomas, Emily Montgomery and Alex Montgomery; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Dianne Fitzgibbon of Rochester NY along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; an infant daughter Mary Elizabeth, brother Robert Fitzgibbon, and a son-in-law Tom LeBeau.
Kit was born on May 17, 1934 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Roderick & Helen (Regan) Fitzgibbon. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and later married Joseph Kiah on Sept 1, 1956 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Herbert Hannan officiating their marriage.
In 1952, Kit began working at the Ogdensburg Trust Company, (now known as Community Bank) in the loan department. She retired in 1990 after 38 years of dedicated service. She and her husband also owned and operated Kiah’s Grocery Store and later Liquor Store for many years. She was a member of the Hepburn Hospital Guild, Notre Dame Parish and Community Players. Kit enjoyed knitting children’s clothing, crocheting, skiing, gardening, and cooking. Later in life, although she didn’t enjoy the flying, she made several trips to attend family celebrations throughout the country.
