It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert 'Bob' Hynes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who unexpectedly passed away at his home on March 7, 2026. Born on August 14, 1945, in Ogdensburg, NY, Bob was the beloved son of the late Ralph and Hazel (Cleland) Hynes.
Bob grew up on the family farm in Depeyster and graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1963. He worked first at Agway Farm Supply in Heuvelton and then Madrid for many years while also fulfilling his dream of owning and operating two dairy farms. Later, he concluded his career as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Heuvelton, a role in which he found great joy in connecting with his community.
On November 20, 1971, Bob married Connie Ethridge, at the Ogdensburg Methodist Church. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, celebrating 54 wonderful years of marriage. Bob was a devoted father to his daughters, Jennifer Hynes (Roger Bushey) and Julie (Derrick) Gray. He found immense joy in being a grandfather to five adoring grandchildren: Tyler, Cole, and Madisyn Bushey, and Landon and Jaxon Gray. Bob also leaves behind a close nephew, Curt (Jennifer) Ethridge and children Cory and Cody, with all of whom he shared a special bond.
He is also survived by his brother, Paul Hynes (Judy Bailey) and his sisters, Bernice Henry, Betty (Bob) Poor, and Donna Hynes (Gary Risley) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bernard and Vernon, and his infant sister, Mary Margaret.
Bob enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting season and time spent in the woods. He enjoyed summers on the river at camp, traveling, visits to the casino and was also a voracious reader. A devoted sports fan, he cheered for the Yankees, the New York Giants, and especially, the Heuvelton Bulldogs.
Bob was a member of the Heuvelton Fire Department, where he served with dedication for many years. Even after retiring, he continued to enjoy the camaraderie of weekly coffee hours at the fire station.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) from 12:00pm to 3:00pm with the service to follow at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.
Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at the Heuvelton Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department First Responders, in memory of Bob's dedicated service to his community.
Bob will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. His legacy of love and kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.
