

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will take place in Cranberry Lake in the spring.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Sean was born on April 2, 1959, in Ogdensburg, to the late John “Jack” and Mary Lou (Breen) McNamara. He grew up in Ogdensburg, attending St. Mary’s Academy, Ogdensburg Free Academy, and SUNY Canton. In June 1984, Sean married Mary Jones, and although they later divorced, they remained friends throughout their lives.
Sean worked in journalism and advertising, starting his career with the Ogdensburg Journal and later the Press Republican and Johnson Newspaper Corporation. He spent the final 10+ years of his career as the Advertising Manager at North Country Now before retiring in 2024.
An avid golfer and lover of the outdoors, Sean enjoyed camping, fishing, and woodworking. He treasured time spent with his beloved family, especially his daughters Erin and Catherine, and his granddaughters Emma and Leah. Sean’s kind and loving nature touched the lives of many, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughters Erin (Thomas) Reardon of Malone and Catherine McNamara of West Chazy; their mother Mary McNamara of West Chazy; grandchildren Emma and Leah Reardon; four brothers, Timothy (Robin) McNamara of Madrid, Patrick (Mindy) McNamara of Ogdensburg, Bryan McNamara of Potsdam, James McNamara of Russell; and a sister, Martha Thompson. Sean was predeceased by his brother John “Jack” McNamara.
