Albert Roy Johnson 78, of Edmond, stepped into glory on July 6, 2017. He was born on December 31, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas to Larry and Glenda Johnson. He was the oldest of four children, two brothers and one sister. At the age of 12, he accepted Christ as his Savior. He graduated from Andover High School in 1956. Afterward, he attended El Dorado Junior College to study accounting. June 8, 1958, Al married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Waggoner. From this marriage, two daughters were born, Jeanette Elaine Spencer and Brenda Kristine Cantwell.
Al then went on to apprentice as an electrician. He then began to work for McBride Electric in Wichita, Kansas. After several years, Al moved to Oklahoma City to open a branch for McBride; which he later purchased and renamed Metroplex Electric. He received the honor of being nominated for a lifetime achievement award of the Professional Businessmen’s Association for his service and dedication since 1973. During his time of working for McBride Electric the owner of the company came to know the Lord. Lloyd McBride challenged Al to rededicate his life to Christ. After doing so, Al, along with his family, began attending Metropolitan Baptist Church. This became a place of growth and involvement for Al and his family. Al and Barbra later began attending Faith Bible Church and this became their church home and family for approximately 20 years.
One of Al’s biggest passions in life was motorcycles and he traveled to all 50 states by motorcycle. He was also very involved in the Christian Motorcycle Association, and became an Area Representative. One area where Al blessed many people was through his hobby of wood working. Al used his craftsmanship to touch the hearts of many friends and family. Each person who received one of these works of art truly felt the love and thoughtfulness of Al’s heart and spirit; these gifts are reminders of the love, joy, and kindness that Al carried in his heart at all times.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and riding companion Raymond Johnson, but is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara Johnson, his brother Carl Johnson, sister Judi Smith, his daughters Jeanette and Mark Spencer of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brenda and Wayne Cantwell of Del City, Oklahoma, his grandchildren Jessica Cantwell, Robert Cantwell, Hannah and Russell Drew of Oxford, Georgia, Daniel Cantwell, AnnaMarie Spencer, Grayson Cantwell, and Albert Spencer; and his three great-grandchildren Chloe, Abigail, and Elliot Drew.
