Carol May Reed, 80, of Oklahoma City passed from this life on June 19, 2021. Services have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Carol was born on May 31, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to I.D. and Cecil Ashmore. Carol attended Oklahoma City University for several years and that is where she met Leon Sapp, with whom she had two children. In 1976 she married Jim Reed. Carol and Jim spent 40 wonderful years together before his passing in 2016.
Carol began her career working as a switchboard operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone. She worked for a short time as a secretary at Urban Renewal before accepting a position as a secretary at Union Oil. She then went on to work at the Baptist Hospital as a unit clerk in Labor and Delivery until she retired in the mid 2000’s.
Carol was a kind and generous woman. She was a devoted mother who worked multiple jobs at one time to help make sure her boys had the best life possible. She had a profound love for her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, her specialty was fried chicken and gravy. She loved square dancing with Jim, attending Council Road Baptist Church, bowling, crocheting, and playing cards with her friends. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Carol Reed was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, I.D. Ashmore Jr, and her husband Jim. She is survived by her two sons, Lonnie Ashmore, and Sean and his wife, Ginger Ashmore, her two daughters, Jami Lapp and her husband, Rick Lapp, and Janice Garland, her grandchildren Noah, Josh, and Aaron Ashmore, Hannah Lapp, Emma Lapp, and Matt Garland, and her sister, Nancy Morrison, as well as numerous other beloved family members and friends.
