Claire "Loraine" Gerichten

Claire "Loraine" Gerichten went to be with the Lord on July 24 2025. She was born in St Louis Missouri and was the only child to Clara and Leo Neagle on January 23 ,1928. Loraine lived in St Louis in her early life graduating from Ferguson High school in 1945.

After graduating for high school she worked various jobs. While working Southwestern Bell she met her future husband August Gerichten. They were married on August 4, 1957 in Honolulu Hawaii. They welcomed their only child, Denise, on December 6, 1960.

In 1965 Southwestern Bell offered August the opportunity to relocate to Kansas City, which he accepted, and they purchased a home in Overland Park Kansas. Loraine became a homemaker enjoying many hobbies such as sewing, painting, reading and playing bridge with her friends. She was also a sports fan and quickly became a Kansas City Chiefs fan attending many of their games as a family.

Since Loraine was unable to attend college to become a nurse she did the next best thing and became a volunteer at Humana Hospital in Olathe Kansas. She was a valued volunteer on the cardiac care floor, and received an award for her 20 years of service.

Loraine was passionate about travel. While the family took numerous summer vacations abroad and within the United States, Loraine decided to see more of the world after August passed away in 1988. Loraine was fortunate enough to travel to Russia, China, India and Israel to name a few. Loraine truly enjoyed seeing the beautiful things the world has to offer and couldn't wait until her next trip.

Loraine lived in the same home in Overland Park until 2018 when she agreed to move in with her daughter Denise and her husband Rick in Oklahoma City where Denise and Rick took care of her in their home until her death.

Loraine is preceded in death by her parents Clara and Leo Neagle and her husband August F Gerichten.

She is survived by her daughter Denise Manning and her husband Rick Manning.

Loraine will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. May she enjoy and be blessed in her next journey in heaven.

A graveside service for Claire will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, located at 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
