

Don was preceded in death by his parents, William Mose and Lydia Wayne, two sisters; Estelle Thornton & Billye Ellis, and a brother, JR Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Townsend and four children, Kelly Baroomand, Don Townsend, Jr, Tracy Garner and her husband John Garner, Robin Vaughn and her husband, Robert Vaughn; 9 grandchildren, John Robinson, Jr, Rachael Baroomand, Elizabeth Enyart and her husband, Justin Enyart, Jessica Townsend, Jake Townsend, Matthew Garner, MD and his wife Kim Garner, PA-C, Michael Garner, Courtney Vaughn, Katherine Milam and her husband, Casey Milam, 7 Great Grandchildren; John Robinson, III., Michelle Robinson, Victoria Enyart, William Thomas Garner, Anna Lynn Garner, Emily Kamea Garner, Scarlett Vaughn-Apple, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, Wyatt Warner & LillyAnna Warner.
Don helped his Father run a grocery store in Jumbo & later in Victory, OK. They had a garden, planting food that the store would sell. Very early he learned to count money and had a clever use of numbers with a high aptitude in Math that helped him all his life! He used to ride his bike for many miles to the red river to play and fish.
He loved growing up in Frederick and was a very handsome teenager that excelled in all the sports he played. During the time he played football the players were required to play offense and defense. During high school Don excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He made several lifelong friends, one is, Leonard Johnson, who will speak during his funeral. They continued the class reunions up to this time and the last one dad attended was the 62nd class reunion!
After serving two years in the US Navy, Don returned to Oklahoma to play football on a scholarship for Southeastern State University He also worked part time. While attending school, Don met the love of his life, Lois Barrick. They married in the beautiful garden of her sister, Velma Jones in Burneyville, OK.
Using his BS Degree in Business and PE, Don started teaching business and math while also coaching a variety of sports in Portales, NM. They moved to Frederick, OK and onto Oklahoma City, OK where Don sold Insurance. He started two businesses before retiring. During the 70’s and 80’s, Don and Lois were able to travel to many countries with a group of friends that they loved. They had great friendships and wonderful experiences. Don loved gardening and had a wonderful front and backyard every year!
Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, OKC, OK on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, 2:00 PM with interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family welcomes friends and family for a viewing Monday, September 16, 2013, 6-8 PM Memorial Park Funeral Home.
