Welcome Dottie. We have been waiting for you; God, Jesus, Husband (Pat), Dad (Steve), Mom (Faye), half sister (Ursel), and grandbaby (Allison). You are in really good hands now. They will be happy to see you smiling.
All of us will hold down the fort here. Michelle Hunsinger (daughter), and her family, Charles (husband), Jillian and Gretchen. Mark (son), and his family, LeAnn (wife), Madeline Ishee (Logan), Gabrielle, and Ben. As well as extended family in Ohio, Poland, and Germany.
Family was so important to Dottie. Pat and Dottie were married for 47+ years. They were married in Germany when Pat was serving in the army. They made their first home in Ohio. They moved their family to Oklahoma City when the kids were both toddlers and stayed in Oklahoma City and Edmond the remainder of their lives.
Mark and Michelle will always remember their childhood with fond memories. Memories of being supported in all they loved, whether it was church, sports, hanging out with friends, family meals, holidays, or vacations.
Dottie’s love for her grandkids was immense. She was so proud to be their Grammy and loved spending time with them. Many things will be missed - birthday phone calls that involved singing, always teasing each grandkid by calling them the wrong name and making them correct her with their full names, Christmas tea time with her grandgirls when they were younger and then lunches together as they grew up, Ben mowing her lawn and then spending time hanging out, matching Christmas PJs, singing your made up song of “Chumunguyya” to them, or her fabulous backscratch sessions were just a few of their favorite things.
Dottie graduated from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing with a BSN in nursing. She spent 20+ years as a Nurse where she helped so many. Her last area to work in was in the burn unit at Baptist Hospital. From there she decided it was time for a new challenge. Real Estate became her passion. Helping clients find their forever home was a great love of hers. For so many, Dottie is most likely the real estate agent who helped find a home they love. Dottie was so successful at doing that, she received awards and accolades too many to mention.
Dottie was known for bringing people together. Whether she was organizing a Sunday school class, church living room group, Alzheimer’s caregivers support group, book clubs, bunco groups, or her hugely successful GTT (Gals Traveling Together) travel club, Dottie was great at taking charge and organizing fun for everyone.
Dottie was a one name gal. Whenever someone said “Dottie” you knew it was Dottie Smith without even asking. Dottie: wife, mom, Grammy, friend. She will be missed by all and never forgotten. Until we see you again, all our love.
