Evelyn Mary Reynolds Roodschild was born in San Francisco, California on June 24, 1950, to Glen and Ruth Reynolds. She passed peacefully into eternal rest on December 15th, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by her family in loving prayer.
Evelyn grew up in Lompoc, California, where she met and formed a deep friendship with Marilyn Weeks. Over the years, the girls enjoyed many trips and adventures with each others’ families. As the girls grew, they would talk for hours about plans for the future and promised to always be close friends. As time went on, Evelyn and Marilyn met Hans Roodschild and Rick Sprague, two Airmen stationed nearby at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Soon after, a double date was arranged and the beginning of an unbreakable bond was formed between the two couples.
Hans and Evelyn married on March 20th, 1970, in Lompoc, California, and became an inseparable team. They later moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida and shortly thereafter, Evelyn was baptized at the Longwood Church of Christ. She would remain faithful to the Lord Jesus all the rest of her life. Her devotion to the Lord and the church was evident to everyone who knew her, because she embodied this scripture: “clothe yourself instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4).
After Hans was discharged from the Air Force in 1972, they made the Dallas, Texas, area their home for over 40 years. Many special Christian friends left a lasting influence on Hans and Evelyn during this period of their life, including Charles and Inez Weeks, Ron and Carolyn Alexander, Bob and Gail Johnson, and James and Geneva Roe.
From them, Hans and Evelyn learned to “love the brethren fervently with a pure heart” (1 Peter 1:22); and no matter the size of their house, their home was always open to anyone in need of a safe haven, an encouraging word, a comfortable place to sleep, or a meal. Their kindness left an enduring impression on anyone who met them, and we will never know just how many lives they touched during their time on earth—such was their humility.
Even after relocating to Oklahoma City in 2013 and Hans’ passing in 2014, Evelyn’s dedication to hospitality, kindness, and service to others never faltered. She especially loved the kids at church, frequently inviting them over to her apartment for a day of painting, puzzles, crafts, and chocolate chip cookies.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Hans; her parents; her beloved sister, Susan Flint; and brother-in-law, Norm Flint, whom she cherished as a true brother.
She leaves behind her son, Jon, and his wife, Allison, of Heltonville, Indiana; her daughter, Jenny, and her husband, Michael Howard, of Edmond, Oklahoma; her six grandchildren, Noah, Emma (and husband Alden), Hunter, Zaden, Baron, and Walter; her dear nieces and nephews; countless treasured brothers and sisters in Christ, and her special boys whom she nannied for many years, Will and Brock Rohloff.
Evelyn will be remembered for her love of Hans, her family, the ocean, beaches, seashells, the color orange, sunrises and sunsets, birds, flowers, and her morning coffee. But above all, she loved the Lord Jesus with her whole heart. Evelyn will be sorely missed, but we know many friends and loved ones are welcoming her on the other side.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Bellevue Health and Rehab for the kind and tender care given to Evelyn during the final months of her life.
“Weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning” (Psalm 30:5).
