

Hazel Olene Barnes was born October 15, 1923 to Ova and Kizzie Johnston in Poke County, Arkansas. She graduated from Happy Hill Public School. She married Fred Ruddell 1942 and their daughter, Loretta Olene Ruddell, was born in 1943. Fred Was killed in action during WWII. Hazel then married Webster Richard Barnes in 1949. This union brought forth two more children; David Webster Barnes 1951 and Leota Lynnette Barnes 1955.
Hazel was a member of Opengate Community Church. She taught Sunday school for 30 years at Immanuel Nazarene Church before it was merged with Opengate in 1985. Dedicated to her family, Hazel enjoyed gardening, sewing and caring for her family. She lived her life to reflect the love of Christ and through her example, many people came to know Christ as their Savior.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, both husbands, oldest daughter, and son. Survivors include her daughter, Leota Manners of Edmond; granddaughters, Tabitha of Stillwater and Lauren Manners of San Jose, Costa Rica; great-granddaughter, Alanna Manners of Stillwater; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Oklahoma City from noon to 7pm, Friday, with family present to receive friends from 6pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, at Crosstimbers Church in Oklahoma City. A graveside will be held 2pm, Thursday, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
