He was the sixth child of seven siblings and was a 5th generation Tailor following in the Moghbel family tradition of Artistry and Tailoring. He then went on to marry Zahra Boulgha in 2006 and they raised three children together as well.
Mostafa obtained a green card to immigrate to the US in 1974 and chose to come to Oklahoma. His first job in OKC was with Stavros Kolkas Fine Tailoring in Penn Square. In October of 1976, Mostafa and Felicia together opened GOLDEN SCISSOR BOUTIQUE Tailor Shop in OKC. He became well known to many local celebrities, several Oklahoma Governors and politicians, and local businesses for his fine tailoring and designing.
Mostafa became a naturalized citizen of the United States in March of 1984 and was committed to a mission of joining Oklahoma Iranians together, thus preserving their Iranian culture for future generations. In 1992, he initiated the Iranian-American Community and worked relentlessly each year to make sure the Iranian New Year and other Iranian celebrations (and concerts) were available to the Iranian community regularly. He was the “go-to man” for weddings and other celebrations.
He was very involved with local and national pageants, creating stunning evening gowns and Oklahoma-themed costumes for Miss America and Miss America USA for competitions. He was often selected as a judge for those competitions.
His fame grew into a nationally recognized manufacturing company for Prom and Pageant dresses known as “DANIELLA”, and a popular Bridesmaid line, “NICOLIA”, named after his first two children… He had showrooms in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and New York featuring his retail lines. His line of clothing, sold nationwide, was often selected by those in the Bridal Industry as a “Top Five” seller, featured often in Modern Bride and Bride magazines. It was important to him that his designs were “PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA” and utilized local models, showcasing Oklahoma locations for his Fall and Spring catalogs each year.
Mostafa then met Zahra at his friends’ restaurant, with her then working with him at Bridal Showroom. Bridal Maison was opened at 50 Penn Place in 2011, and displayed many of his custom-made dresses, continuing the second generation of clients.
Iranian students at local universities and colleges sought him for his advice and leadership, and the UIASO (United Iranian American Society of Oklahoma) honored him recently at a dinner “Night with Mr. Moghbel” held at the Petroleum Club in downtown OKC.
Often, he was the one contacted for funeral arrangements and burial preparation. He is responsible for an Iranian burial area at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City for his fellow Iranian brothers and sisters.
His parents, one sister and his son, Daniel, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Zahra, and four children, Nicole, Nouhaila, Mouhamad, and Yousef Ali, four brothers and two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Iranian community will always remember “Mr. Moghbel” for his many contributions, and many Oklahomans will remember his great creative and sewing talent, pleasant understanding, friendship and patience. He was a good human being, and will be missed…
