Myra Foxworthy

Myra was born to Harry Ray Vedder and Eva Pearl Jamison Vedder in Grand Island, Nebraska. She moved to Oklahoma City at the age of three. She graduated from NW Classen High School and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1960. While attending OU, she joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, held the position of President and received the highest honor, The Circle. She met the love of her life, Dennis Foxworthy while at OU and they married July 16, 1960. Dennis and Myra moved to Edmond in 1961 and there she began serving on numerous committees of her national sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. In 1970, she was appointed to the National Pan-Hellenic delegate and in 1971 became Chairperson. She served on many committees over 26 years. Among those were: Liaison of the National Association of Women’s Deans and Counselors and Fraternity Advisors, National Interfraternity Foundation and later served as President and Foundation Director. She also served on the Balfour Foundation, and was a member of President Ford’s Higher Education Council. Besides serving as a member of these many committees, she was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Outstanding Alumni of Oklahoma University.

If you asked Myra what her greatest accomplishments were, without hesitation, she would say, Dirk Alan and Erin Kay. Myra also loved antiques and had many collections of her own, in addition to sharing Erin’s antique dolls and Dirk’s antique toys.

Myra’s parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Dennis of 55 years; son, Dirk Alan and girlfriend, Jeanice Van Liew of Overland Park Kansas; daughter, Erin Kay and husband Michael Brawner of Conifer, Colorado; four grandchildren, Travis Brawner and wife Jordon of Elk City, Kaleb Brawner of Silverthorne, Colorado, Nathan Foxworthy and Alexis Foxworthy of Overland Park, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Mason, and Lincoln Brawner of Elk City, and mother of Nathan and Alexis, Stacy Foxworthy of Overland Park, Kansas. Myra had many friends that she kept in touch with over the years. She and her best and dearest friend since high school, Margarite Brewster, were inseparable. Her nurse and friend for many years, Terry Mills, was always around and available, regardless of time of day.
