Mr. Ray V. Boyd Sr. was born September 29, 1942, to parents Ms. Ruby Lee Long and Mr. Arthur D. Boyd in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His mother died at his tender age of five years old and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nannie Cook, took up the reigns of raising him to adulthood. He joined church at an early age, Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Later on in life he joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he attended with his family.
Ray graduated from Douglass High School, “Home of the Trojans”, where he made lifelong friends. The segue between high school and college found him working as a sous chef at Tottle House. He then attended and excelled at Oklahoma State University and later took certified training courses at Rose State College. Ray valued knowledge, the education process, and the upward mobility it offered.
He was employed at Will Rogers World Airport as a carpenter for seven years. He then became employed by the City of Oklahoma City (the Myriad, and Water Department) where he held management positions for thirty years. Ray developed a solution that saved the city hundreds of man hours that are still in effect to this day. When he retired from the City of Oklahoma City, Ray found it difficult to be at home having always enjoyed working. Shortly thereafter, he began another career at the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, (OSBI), Central Lab where he remained for another ten years.
During earlier years, Ray V. Boyd Sr. met, fell in love with, and married Charlene Snell. Their marriage stood the test of time, having lasted nearly fifty years. Ray and Charlene are a lovely couple and highly complement each other. Laughter always rings within the walls of their home. They have a combined total of five children, three daughters, and two sons.
When God called Ray home, those left to mourn his passing are: Charlene Boyd, his beautiful loving wife. Daughters, Candace Boyd-Johnson (Robert), Dimitria Clayton and Tiffany Boyd. Sons, Ray V. Boyd, Jr., and Christopher Morgan. Grandchildren left to mourn are: TeLecia Young, Aubrey Johnson, Micah Morgan, and Adriana Morgan. In addition, there’s his sisters, Jolene Pittman, Judy Graves and Carole Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
We praise, honor, and thank God for the life and legacy of: Mr, Ray V. Boyd Sr.
A funeral service for Ray will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 4216 NE 63rd St, Oklahoma City, OK 73121.
