Josefina Quinones was born November 9th 1927, in the town of Hatillo Puerto Rico. Her Dad was Agustin Perez and her Mom was Wenceslas (Chela) Mieles. She had 4 Sisters, Eladia, Ana, Eneida and Dora. Josefina was the middle Child and last surviving child. Josefina grew up in the Beautiful Island of Puerto Rico surrounded by Beaches, Mountains and lots of love.
She married Enrique “Quique” Quinones May 24th 1952. She had a son who died at birth, she had a second son Jose born November 17th 1954 and a daughter Naydamar born April 24th 1956. Enrique served in the US Army from 1952 through 1954 and fought in the front lines of the Korean war. In 1959 Josefina, Enrique, Jose and Naydamar moved to Brooklyn New York to start a new life.
Enrique worked in carpentry and warehousing until retiring in 1987 and Josefina worked as a seamstress for Quiltex corporation until she retired in 1987. Josefina and Enrique instilled a life of love and hard work for both their children and family. The home was always full of love and laughter and great food. Enrique played the Cuatro (the national Puerto Rican Instrument, similar to a guitar). He played in the Church Choir at St Michael's Church in Brooklyn.
At Christmas time and New Years Enrique and Josefina were in high demand because of the Puerto Rican tradition of Parandas (Christmas Caroling, going from home to home of family and friends, some times in frigid weather and snow). In 1988 Enrique and Josefina moved to Orlando Florida and became members of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church where they were warmly welcomed and where Enrique also played the Cuatro for the Choir. They had many friends and were joined by their son and his family in 1989. Their daughter and family lived a little further North in the town of Daphne near Mobile Alabama.
Daughter Naydamar passed to be with our lord on May 11 2008 on Mothers day and Enrique passed the following year June 16th 2009. Josefina was a very strong and faithful woman. She is survived by her son Jose, daughter in law Griselle, Grandson David, and his wife Thais and great grandson Mateo. Grand daughter Kristen, Grandson Sean Grandson Derek and his wife Caroline and Grand daughter Megan, her husband Dylan and great granddaughter Zelda Josephine and many friends and family that loved her.
May Josefina rest in peace, now joining her Mom and Dad, her Husband, son and daughter and a handful of family and friends that joyfully welcome her home. She will be missed but we know she is at peace.
