Leo Francis Rollman

Leo was born the 31st of January, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Robert and Anna (Kuhn) Rollman. He graduated from Baltimore's Mount Saint Joseph College High School and attended Loyola College on a scholarship where the Air Force selected him as an Aviation Cadet. He attended navigator training in Texas, graduating with a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. While stationed at Forbes AFB, Kansas, Leo met the love of his life, Carol, and they wed on October 10, 1959. They were blessed with five children over the next six years…Mike born in Kansas, Jeff, Mark, and Tom born in Nebraska, and finally Patti, the girl they always dreamed of, born in Alaska. Leo’s Air Force duties as an Air Force Electronic Warfare Officer were extensive and important. In the late 50s/early 60s he flew telemetry intelligence missions out of U.S. Air Bases in Turkey on the Air Force's specialized EB-47E(TT) aircraft, picking up radio signals from Soviet missile tests and space launches while perched in the aircraft’s modified bomb bay known as the “Crow capsule”. He then served as EWO aboard the Air Force’s B-52 bomber during numerous tours of duty during the Vietnam war, protecting his aircraft and fellow aircrew from deadly Surface to Air Missiles. In 1974, Leo (with Carol’s help) made the momentous decision to conclude his Air Force career, retiring as a Major from McCoy AFB in Orlando. He moved his family just north of the base into the Conway area where he and Carol have lived ever since.

Leo then launched into his second career as a Certified Public Accountant, having earned his MS in accounting, and worked for a variety of firms until his second (and final) retirement in 1992. During that time he coached his children in little league baseball and refereed basketball for Middle and High School teams.

Retirement didn't slow Leo down. He and Carol traveled extensively and he entered into the volunteering phase of his life. Humane Society, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, Homeowner's Association...countless hours serving others and serving faithfully in his church as an usher, lay reader, administration helper, and bookkeeping aide.

Leo was preceded in death by his sisters Emma, Zita Marie, and Mary Louise (Weese). He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol, his children Mike, Jeff, Mark, Tom, and Patti, their spouses, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was a faithful, loving husband and a caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was dearly loved and is deeply missed.
