Lilo Gonzalez Colon

A visitation will be held at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, locat Lilo Gonzalez, 95, passed away peacefully on Janyary 1, 2026 in Kissimmee, Florida. Born on October 11, 1930, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and enduring values.

At the age of twelve, Lilo's father died and he was forced to quit school to work in the sugar fields of Purto Rico in order to help his mother provide for their family. He worked long laborious hours. It was exhaustive work for little pay but was the beginning of a strong work ethic and sparked his desire to achieve more in his life.

Lilo fell in love with Gloria Green Rodriguez when he was twenty years old. Two of their four children, Nicolas and Zaida, were born in Puerto Rico. However, in the early 1950’s they realized they would have to migrate to the United States for a better life. His wife and children remained in Puerto Rico until Lilo found steady employment. He first found work as a migrant tobacco picker in Connecticut, a seasonal, dirty, sweaty, hard, low paying job. He was not disheartened and with determination and resilience continued to strive for a means to bring his family to the United States. He found a better job at the Bic pen company in Connecticut before finding employment at Philip Morris in New York City. His wife and children were able to join him in 1954 and they settled in Brooklyn, New York. Lilo and Gloria had their last two children, William and Judith, in Brooklyn, and together built a future in the states. Lilo was a valued member of the maintenace team at Philip Morris where he worked for thirty-five years until retirement. This was a testatment to his loyalty and unwavering work ethic. After a successful life in the United States, Lilo and Gloria retired back to Puerto Rico in 1990 where they lived happily for almost thirty years. Hurricane Maria in 2017 led to their eventual return to the states in 2019.

A devoted Roman Catholic, Lilo’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He was known among those who knew him as a dedicated husband, father, brother, and son. His high standards, strong character and generosity left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Lilo found joy in simple pleasures. He loved fishing—spending quiet hours by the water—and playing dominoes with friends and family. These pastimes brought him joy and connection throughout the years.

Lilo is survived by his sons, Nicolas (Zulma) and William (Laura) Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Zaida (Francisco) Rodriguez and Judith (Guy) Delannoy.

He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren; Nick (predeceased), William (Damaris), Frankie (Paulina), Tanyka, Elliot(Ruth), Andre' (Samantha), Mark and Jacqueline, twelve great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was loving brother to Eugenio Gonzalez, Encarnacion Gonzalez, Teotiste Gonzalez, Angelina Gonzalez, Irma Sanchez and Carlos Santiago. He was a special uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family will remember him as a committed man of excellence.

A Wake will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:30 PM for immediate family and 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM for all at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill 2420 Harrell Rd., Orlando, Florida.

A funeral service will be held at Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The burial service will follow at noon.

Lilo González, de 95 años, falleció pacíficamente el 1 de enero de 2026 en Kissimmee, Florida. Nacido el 11 de octubre de 1930 en Salinas, Puerto Rico, vivió una vida larga y significativa marcada por la dedicación a la familia, el trabajo duro y los valores duraderos.

A la edad de doce años, el padre de Lilo murió y se vio obligado a abandonar la escuela para trabajar en los campos de azúcar de Purto Rico con el fin de ayudar a su madre a mantener a su familia. Trabajó largas horas laboriosas. Fue un trabajo exhaustivo por poco dinero, pero fue el comienzo de una fuerte ética de trabajo y despertó su deseo de lograr más en su vida.

Lilo se enamoró de Gloria Green Rodríguez cuando tenía veinte años. Dos de sus cuatro hijos, Nicolas y Zaida, nacieron en Puerto Rico. Sin embargo, a principios de la década de 1950 se dieron cuenta de que tendrían que emigrar a los Estados Unidos para una vida mejor. Su esposa e hijos permanecieron en Puerto Rico hasta que Lilo encontró un empleo estable. Primero encontró trabajo como recolector de tabaco para migrantes en Connecticut, un trabajo estacional, sucio, sudoroso, duro y mal remunerado. No estaba desanimado y con determinación y resistencia continuó luchando por un medio para traer a su familia a los Estados Unidos. Encontró un mejor trabajo en la compañía de plumas Bic en Connecticut antes de encontrar empleo en Philip Morris en la ciudad de Nueva York. Su esposa y sus hijos pudieron unirse a él en 1954 y se establecieron en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Lilo y Gloria tuvieron sus dos últimos hijos, William y Judith, en Brooklyn, y juntos construyeron un futuro en los Estados Unidos. Lilo era un miembro valioso del equipo de mantenimiento en Philip Morris, donde trabajó durante treinta y cinco años hasta su jubilación. Esto fue un testimonio de su lealtad y ética de trabajo inquebrantable. Después de una vida exitosa en los Estados Unidos, Lilo y Gloria se retiraron a Puerto Rico en 1990, donde vivieron felices durante casi treinta años. El huracán María en 2017 llevó a su eventual regreso a los estados en 2019.

Católico, la fe de Lilo fue una fuerza guía a lo largo de su vida. Era conocido entre aquellos que lo conocían como un esposo, padre, hermano e hijo dedicados. Sus altos estándares, fuerte carácter y generosidad dejaron una impresión duradera en todos los que se cruzaron en su camino.

Lilo encontró alegría en los placeres simples. Le encantaba pescar, pasar horas tranquilas junto al agua y jugar al dominó con amigos y familiares. Estos pasatiempos le trajeron alegría y conexión a lo largo de los años.

A Lilo le sobreviven sus hijos, Nicolas (Zulma) y William (Laura) González. Fue precedido en la muerte por sus hijas, Zaida (Francisco) Rodríguez y Judith (Guy) Delannoy.

Era un abuelo amoroso de ocho nietos; Nick (prefallecido), William (Damaris), Frankie (Paulina), Tanyka, Elliot (Ruth), Andre' (Samantha), Mark y Jacqueline, doce bisnietos y cinco tataranietos. Era hermano amoroso de Eugenio González, Encarnación González, Teotiste González, Angelina González, Irma Sánchez y Carlos Santiago. Era un tío especial para muchas sobrinas y sobrinos. Su familia lo recordará como un hombre comprometido de excelencia.
