Maria Lima, affectionately known as “Maly” and “Maloly,” passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 78. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, on March 28, 1947, Maria brought joy, strength, and an unshakable love to every life she touched.
Maria was the very heartbeat of her family—a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, cherished friend, and the life of every party. Known for her fierce spirit and boundless compassion, she made every room brighter with her laughter, wisdom, and unforgettable phrases like “My way or the highway,” “Could be better but it could be worse,” and her most tender expression, “I love LOVE”
She is survived by her five children—Sarah Garcia, Joe Garcia, Marcus Muñiz, Christy Elliott, and Christopher Lima—along with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward her legacy of love, resilience, and joy.
Maria attended George Washington High School and later became an instructor at an electronics firm before retiring. She was a proud member of the 3 F Club, where she proudly bragged of her position as president. Though small in stature, her presence was commanding—full of passion, kindness, and unmistakable fire. She loved the ocean, loud music, and most of all, her children.
She was the kind of woman who would dance like no one was watching, console anyone with a warm embrace, and never let a soul feel left out or unloved. She gave selflessly, laughed deeply, and loved harder than anyone else we’ve ever known.
A public memorial service to celebrate her extraordinary life will be held on July 22 at 6:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Chapel Hill, officiated by Tommy Cook. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. A private burial will follow.
Maria’s memory will live on in every song played too loud, every sunset over the ocean, and every heartfelt “I love you”. Her legacy is one of joy, defiance, generosity, and unconditional love—and the world is better because she was in it.
