Alice Marie Burwinkle of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on March 1, 2026. She was 87 years old. A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, March 9th, 2026, at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66215. A Celebration of Life will follow from 11:00am – 2:00 pm at Town and Country Clubhouse, 7101 Hedge Lane Terrace, Shawnee, Kansas 66226. In lieu of flowers, consider making a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice in Alice’s honor.
Alice was born on November 21, 1938, in Cuba City, Wisconsin to Vera Mae (Morris) and Bernard Basil Paquette. The family lived on a farm in Shullsburg, Wisconsin until Alice was 10 years old, then they moved into town. Alice attended Shullsburg High School and graduated with the class of 1956. After graduation, Alice attended business school at Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa. Following her education, Alice began her career as a receptionist at Weber Paper Company.
Alice met her husband, James John Burwinkle in 1956 and the two wed on July 21, 1962, at St. Mary’s Church in Bangor, Wisconsin. Together, they moved to Milwaukee, then to Atlanta, Georgia, then two years in Des Moines, Iowa, before settling in the Kanas City area. Alice spent her free time reading, watching movies, baking, and listening to the birds. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Vera Paquette; and her sister Elizabeth (Paquette) Kamenick.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, James John Burwinkle; children, LeAnn Marie Capps (Miles), Joseph William Burwinkle (Cynthia), and Mary Elizabeth Langenhorst (Todd); grandchildren, Rebecca, Kristin, Justin, Julia, Hunter, and Caroline; five great-grandchildren; along with many other dear family members and friends
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the caregivers and drivers who took such good care of Alice. Alice would frequently talk about her interactions with all of you, and she so enjoyed her conversations with all of you.
