Barbara J. Mayer

Barbara J. Mayer, age 81, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Visitation will be 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Friday, March 16th at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 4:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.

Barbara was born on September 16, 1936, in Emerson, NE, to William H. and Alice V. (Temple) Denker. She grew up in Dysart, IA and later moved to the Kansas City area. She was devoted to raising her five children. For 11 years, Barbara worked for Home Depot. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be dearly missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Ward Mayer in 2004 and her son, Kurt Halupnick in 2007. She is survived by her sons, Todd Halupnick, Merriam, KS and Jamie Mayer and his wife, Tracey, Louisville, KY; daughters, Kimberly Degn and her husband, Greg, New Bloomfied, MO and Barbara Darby (Mike Swain), Oak Grove, MO; daughter-in- law, Tammy Halupnick, Blue Springs, MO; brothers, Gary Denker and his wife, Ruthanne, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Richard Denker, London, KY; sister, Marlys Wilson and her husband Kendall, Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Katie Degn (Rhiannon Lutz-Degn), Justin Mayer (Courtney Mayer), Kylee Mayer, Maggie Degn (Sam Purdy), Jordan Mayer, Payton Darby (Jordan Dobson), Alex Degn (Ashlynn Girard) and Cole Halupnick; and great grandchildren, Jaxton Mayer, Millie Mayer, Kennedie Lutz-Jenkins and Chloe Purdy.
