Barbara Jean McClurg passed away Wednesday, January 29th, 2020. Barbara was born April 15, 1935 to Helen DeVault and Alphonse Schepers. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy and her husband, Ed; her son, Donny and his wife, Marsha; grandchildren, Stacie (Anthony), Jennifer (C.J.), Amber and Taylor and great grandchildren, Sophia, Penelope and Jonathan.
She met her husband at the service station her grandparents owned and they married after a year of dating in 1955. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gene McClurg who passed away in 1981. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 26 years.
Barbara was a homemaker while her children were young and then carried her love for kids to a career working in the childcare center at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She continued working there for several years until her retirement in 1997, where she then enjoyed her days taking care of both, Amber and Taylor.
In retirement, she worked on needlepoint projects to give her kids and grandkids, which included Christmas ornaments, stockings and tree skirts. The homemade gifts she provided have become cherished heirlooms today. Her grandkids fondly remember spending weekends with her filled with backyard games, overnights, playing with whipped cream, orange rolls, sugared strawberries and sweet tea. Her joys included Sunday night family dinners and spending as much time as possible with her grandkids. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, quick-witted responses and infectious laughter. She will be loved and missed immensely.
A service celebrating her life will be 11am, Saturday, February 1st at McGilley & Hoge Chapel with visitation beginning at 10am. Burial will follow the service in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
