Beth Horner

Beth was born on October 13, 1961 to James E. and Sandra (Muntzel) Foster in Overland Park, KS. A lifelong Kansas Citian, Beth graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School and attended the University of Kansas where her love for the Kansas Jayhawks only grew fonder. Beth married her high school sweetheart Dana (Gus) Horner on October 17, 1987, and sweethearts they stayed for 34 years, dedicating themselves to their family, family business and sharing their love for life and one another with many.

Beth was a friend to all, always caring for others through selfless acts, both big and small, and known for opening her heart and home. Beth affectionately answered to “Miss Beth,” coined by the neighborhood children she loved so much, a role she took very seriously, never missing a birthday or school bus drop off.

Beth was creative, generous, thoughtful and kind. Above all, she was an extraordinary mother to her children, Christopher Horner (Shannon) and Meg Horner (Mycol Bowen). Fiercely loving and supportive, Beth found a front row seat at every basketball game and theater performance and celebrated each new milestone with more excitement and joy than the last.

Beth was a steadfast supporter of her nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Sissy,” Bryan Foster (Julie), Thomas Foster (Marcus) and Andrea Foster, Thomas (TJ) Horner IV, Justin Horner (Stacey) and Jake Horner (Rachel), Jordan Frederes (Patrick Howell) and Daniel Nichols, Brock Horner, David Barth (Jill), Kate Moore (Stephen) and Andrew Barth (Brett Ashley), Jackson and Mackenzie Adriano.

Beth is survived by her husband, Gus Horner of Overland Park, KS; son, Christopher J. Horner (Shannon) of Dallas, TX; daughter, Margaret K. Horner (Mycol Bowen) of Overland Park, KS; mother, Sandra M. Foster of Overland Park, KS and brother, Dr. Michael Foster of Brownsville, TX; brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Becky Nichols (Larry), Thomas Horner III (Shelly), Brock Horner (Barbara) and Debby Williamson (Rick), as well as many members of the Foster and Horner family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. James E. Foster; mother and father-in-law, Jacqueline and Thomas Horner II; grandparents, Margaret and Mack Muntzel and Lucille and Royce Hoge and nephew, Tyler Frederes.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 10am at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Beth’s name to Growing Futures or Village Presbyterian Church.
