Cecilia Medved Rinehart, age 93, of Overland Park, KS died on May 28, 2021. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Friday, June 4th at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Visitation will be from 10 am – 11 am on Friday, prior to the Mass. Burial in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Charities of NE Kansas, 9720 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212; or the charity of choice.
Cecilia was born on April 24, 1928 to John Thomas Medved and Mary Catherine Martel Medved. She attended St. Anthony Grade School, Wyandotte High School, and earned a Master’s Degree in Communication from the University of Kansas. She was a lifelong member of the KU Alumni Association and remained a steadfast KU fan.
She married Elman Curtis Rinehart on December 26, 1949 and they celebrated 69 years of marriage, prior to his death in 2019.
She was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company for 30 years, retiring as a personnel analyst when the company ceased local operation. For several years Cecilia was a free-lance writer, with articles appearing in both local and national publications.
Cecilia and her husband were original charter members of Leawood South Country Club, where they were dedicated golfers for many years. Cecilia enjoyed gardening, bridge, and was an avid reader.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elman Rinehart. Cecilia is survived by her sister, Helen Cobb; nephew and wife, Richard Cobb and his wife, Rose; niece, Kathy Sullivan and her husband, Tim; nephew Lloyd Stullken and his wife, Marcia; great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.
