

Retired US Army Major, David Lawrence Youngdoff, 48, passed away at his home from a heart attack Oct 23. Dave was born in 1964 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from SM West High School and Pittsburg State University and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon. In 1990, he married Michelle Doherty. That same year, his father, COL Larry Youngdoff, pinned his wings on him upon flight school graduation.
Dave proudly served his country as a decorated Senior Army Aviator in the Army National Guard for over 24 years and two tours of combat duty. He received the Army Meritorious Service medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), serving two mobilizations in Egypt and Bosnia. Army Achievements Medal (2nd Award) awards, among many awards.
Dave was a self employed entrepreneur for 10 years in the Overland Park area.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his daughters sports and activities, and working on his jeep.
Dave is survived by his wife of 21 years, Michelle, and was a proud father of Anna (19) and Alyson (18). Survivors include Dave’s parents, Larry and Judy Youngdoff, Lenexa, Ks, his sister, Julia (Bill) Baumgartner, New Ulm, MN, and numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-7pm, Thursday, October 25 at McGilley & Hoge Funeral Home at 8024 Santa Fe, Overland Park, Ks. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am, Friday, October 26 at the Church of the Ascension, 9510 W 127th St, Overland Park, Ks. Burial with full military honors will be held in the afternoon at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N 94th St, Kansas City, Ks. A light luncheon is served following funeral, before proceeding to burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wounded Veterans.
