Eileen Grace Mueller was the youngest of five children born to Irish immigrants, Patrick and Mabel Russell in Floral Park, New York on July 13, 1923. This date gave her two badges of honor she would carry with her the rest of her life: being born on Friday the 13th and growing up in the Great Depression. After the passing of her parents at a young age, she moved to Kansas with her sister Gladys and brother-in-law Del in 1943.
While working for the telephone company, she met her husband Paul and they soon married in 1947. Eileen and Paul became parents to their only son Christopher in 1952 and she became a full time devoted home maker; a job she took very seriously. A visit to her home today would reveal her artistic talent for decorating and her creative knack for crafts. She was a beautiful, compassionate and selfless woman and was dearly loved by anyone with whom she had contact. She had an amazing sense of humor and a very sharp wit. These are only a few of Eileen’s countless wonderful qualities.
Paul and Eileen moved from Topeka to the Kansas City suburb, Shawnee in 1969 where she would remain even after her husband’s passing in 1992. She was a devoted and beloved member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and served many years as a member of the Alter Guild. While the Great Depression taught her to be very frugal, she was a generous financial supporter of her church and countless charities for decades.
She became a grandmother of twin boys in 1975 and had the opportunity to know, love and be loved by four great grandchildren born between 2005 and 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, sisters’ Gladys Ferguson and Dede Hayward, and brother’s Billy and Buddy Russell. She is survived by her son Christopher Mueller, her grandsons Jason Mueller and his wife Mariel, Jeremy Mueller his wife Meagan, and four great-grandchildren Brendan, Wesley, Molly and Benjamin.
