Janet Gayle Dalton, July 12, 1941 - December 31, 2024 – Overland Park Kansas - A great wife, mother and friend to all passed away with great fight and dignity surrounded by family on December 31, 2024. While she left behind many who were near and dear to her, the family is comforted knowing that she will be reunited with loved ones who preceded her.
Janet was born July 12, 1941, in Kansas City MO to David and Dorothy “Hughes” Morris. Janet attended St Agnes High School (now Bishop Miege High School). She was able to skip a grade and graduated early from high school in 1958. Upon graduation Janet worked for an insurance company near downtown Kansas City, MO. Janet married Joseph F Dalton on June 25, 1960, and they were married 49 years.
In her early adult life when she had free time, Janet enjoyed playing bridge and participated in bowling leagues. Later in life, Janet enjoyed playing golf and spending time in Las Vegas or at a local casino in KC. Janet was an enthusiastic sports fan and loved watching many sports including college football, college basketball, pro football and golf. She especially liked watching the KC Chiefs, K State and KU. Janet enjoyed traveling and she was also an avid reader, belonging to more than one book club.
In 1995, Janet experienced a significant cardiac event that was life changing. As she recovered from her heart attack, she made significant lifestyle changes that allowed her to live nearly another three decades. She was able to live her “best life” by establishing an exercise routine and completely giving up smoking to maximize her enjoyment of what was to come. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending school events and sports for Max, her beloved grandson.
Janet is survived by her children, Kelly Dalton (Glen Birrell), of Lenexa, KS, Scott Dalton (Melanie Dalton), of Leawood, KS and Stacy Dalton (Chris Bosco) of Overland Park, KS, and one grandson, Max Dalton of Prairie Village, KS. Husband, Joseph Dalton, and granddaughter, Georgia Dalton, along with many beloved friends and relatives preceded Janet in death.
A memorial service for Janet will be held Friday, January 24, 2024, at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel (8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park). Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00AM and a service will begin at 11:00AM. There will be a private family interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
