

Joanne Mayer Williams, age 82, of Leawood, Kansas passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017 at her home. Memorial services will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21st at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday at the chapel prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donor’s Choice.
Joanne was born on October 25, 1934 on the family farm in Lenexa, KS. She was one of seven children born to Carl and Ethyl (Chambers) Mayer. After the family moved to the city, she attended and graduated from Redemptorist High School. Shortly after graduation, she met and married, Charles M. Williams on January 3, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they had three children. Joanne enjoyed playing the piano and was somewhat of an artistic painter. She always had a passion for dance and eventually became an avid dancer, performer, and teacher of dance. In her later years, she worked as a secretary/receptionist in the telecommunication industry. She was a loving, kind, positive and uplifting person. Joanne was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Lea A. Hoffman; her husband of 30 years, Charles M. Williams; her daughter-in-law, Judy Shields Williams; two sisters and their husbands, Virginia Buckley (Chuck) and Irene Peuser (Bill); her brother and his wife, Gene Mayer (Rose); sisters-in-law, Jeannine Mayer and Marge Mayer. She is survived by her son, C. Mark Williams, MD; daughter and son-in-law, Lori J. Dougherty (Jim); son-in-law, Jeff Hoffman; grandchildren, Lauren Dougherty, Kelly Dougherty and Anna Williams; and brothers, Lou Mayer, Ralph Mayer and Jerry Mayer; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
