John Howard Feldmann

Howard attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO, earning a bachelor’s degree. He played saxophone and clarinet in dance bands, and met his future wife Anne Lee Smith. A member of “The Greatest Generation,” he enlisted in the Navy, earning his aviator wings and flew PBY and PBM patrol bombers. After the war he married Anne on September 5, 1946, completed his Master’s in Accounting and earned his CPA.

He began his career at Haskin and Sells, then spent 27 years at the University of Kansas Medical Center where he retired as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance. Howard and Anne also had a home accounting business where they kept accounting records for several medical professional organizations at KU Med., including the Radiology Professional Association where he retired as Fiscal Administrator.

Howard was an avid sports fan especially baseball—first the A’s and now the Royals. He coached both sons to Championships in 3 & 2 ball. He enjoyed music and dancing with Anne, took up organ playing, and in retirement became an accomplished woodcarver. He especially enjoyed the family cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks where he shared his love of the water, fishing and boating with his kids and grandkids. “No running on the dock!”

And while he was the family’s “Chief Worrier,” Howard had a great sense of humor and marvelous wit, passing on to his kids the handkerchief mouse, the penguin joke, the great car theft caper, and many other priceless memories. He was a great, kind and caring family man and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Sophie; his wife, Anne of 63 years; and his brother Lilburn. Surviving Howard are: his three children, Carol (Steve) Dellinger of Great Bend, KS, John (Nancy) Feldmann of Shawnee, KS, and Tom (Jo) Feldmann of Topeka, KS. He also has four grandchildren: Douglas Dellinger of Columbia, SC; Audrey (Evan) Eusey of Sapporo, Japan; John Bradley Feldmann of Kansas City, MO; and Clayton Reid Feldmann of Shawnee, KS. He also has a great grandson, Atticus Reid Eusey, and another great grandchild on the way. Howard also treasured his dear friend Vera Bonebrake.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17 from 6-8 p.m. at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
