

John C. Kennedy, Jr., 94, of Overland Park, KS passed away on March 10, 2016. Visitation will be 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 15 at McGilley & Hoge Chapel in Overland Park. Service to follow at 11:00. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Holy Cross Church or a charity of your choice.
John was born in Dravosburg, PA and grew up in Wheeling, WV. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a business degree. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Army in World War II and was stationed in several countries in Europe. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Marie in 1949 and they've been happily married for 67 years. During the Korean War, he was called back to duty and served in England. After the war, he was an accountant in the telecommunications industry and started his career at Peoples Telephone Company in Butler, PA. He was transferred to Kansas City, Ft. Myers, FL and back to Kansas City. He retired from Sprint after 39 years of service.
He loved gardening and waged battle with the squirrels and birds over the produce from the garden every year. He enjoyed golf and watching golf on TV. He was also a fan of the Royals, Chiefs and KU. John and Marie enjoyed traveling throughout the country and also Europe, Canada and Mexico.
He is survived by his wife Marie; children Joan Pitts of Beverly, WV, John W. Kennedy and his wife Cheryl of Shawnee, KS and Judy Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL; and also 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband and father and we will miss him.
