John Joseph Luther, passed away on January 22, 2025 at his home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, two days after his 33rd birthday. He is survived and mourned by his wife, Margaret (34), son John Thomas (4), mother Marilyn, father Jack and grandmother Ann Luther. Sadly, he discovered his dog, Chino (11), had passed away overnight leaving his beloved dogs Georgia, Sterling, and Rider remaining. He will be missed by his extended family and countless friends whom he considered family.
John and Margaret were married in 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri after more than a decade of devoted partnership, budding as high school sweethearts while attending Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village KS. In the sixteen years they spent together, they traveled the country, gardened in the mountains of California, raised two litters of puppies, and finally birthed their son, JT, in 2020, who continues to light up everyone’s lives without bounds. John loved his son infinitely, and spent all the time he could teaching JT about gardening, animals, music, sports, tools, and how to be a true hearted honest person.
John had a profound affinity and love for music. He grew up playing the bass, first the electric bass and then the acoustic stand-up bass, and went on to collect a gorgeous assortment of stringed instruments, embodying his love for bluegrass, punk, blues, classical music and more.
John was a man of impeccable intelligence, knowledge, depth, and sharp wit. His mind was strong and complex, always thinking, reflecting, and intuiting. He was never dull or simple, a loyal man who made you recognize your shadows and acknowledge hard truths. John honored all walks of life, not quick to judge or turn a blind eye to those in need. He was someone you could count on without question.
Ultimately, John and Margaret settled back near Kansas City in Pleasant Hill, to raise their son surrounded by family, which he honored above all else.
John’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Marriott in Overland Park (Kansas City greater area) at 12 p.m. in Ballroom E., 10800 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210.
