Dr. Rydzel and Shirley were my close neighbors for more than a decade.  The love they had for one another and for their family was obvious and inspiring.  My sympathy and blessings are with the family.

Like so many, Dr. Rydzel was one of my favorite teachers and I tell my "Doc" stories all the time!  German classes were a highlight of my days, and we had so much fun in German Club.  And there he was every basketball season! What a wonderful man--always spoke so devotedly and happily of his family. He lived life to the fullest.  Doc will be missed here, and my prayers and love go to his family and all who loved this special man.

I've been telling Dr. Rydzel stories all my life.  I'd said many
times I should look him up and never got around to it (not
that he would remember one student of the many).  He was a delight and had a great sense of humor and gave great advice.

Dr. Rydzel was one of my favorite teachers at Rockhurst.  His no-nonsense approach to his teaching helped set the stage for my more advanced studies later.  It was a little bit difficult separating his German-Boston accent from the solely germanic pronunciation, however we all managed to persevere.  It was always a joy to visit with him at halftime at the NAIA basketball tournaments where he was the official scorer for many years.  He'd wave across the court, I'd come over to the official scorers table, and we'd renew our friendship  and the events during the intervening year.  I know it pleased him to learn some of his average students actually became a success.  He was a great credit to Rockhurst and we need more teachers like him.  My sincere sympathy and prayers for his family in their loss.

To the family: Doc as some of the students called him was a great man. I only had him for one class but he left an impression on me that has stayed with me to this day. I believe that outside of the history classroom he had a love for sports. Serving as the bowling coach was only one part of this love. He especially enjoyed keping score at the Rockhurst games and put in many long hours for years at the NAIA tournament. Ann although I haven't seen you for a great number of years (too many I admit) My thought and prayers are with you at this trying hour. Look me up in the phone book and call if you have time. I took 3 different courses from Doc at Rockhurst in the 70s and I truly enjoyed our relationship for years. I can't say I'll miss him because he lived such a rich and full life he's certainly entitled to a rest with his beloved wife. Greg Blume

Dr Rydzel was my bowling coach at Rockhurst.  He was a great mentor at the time, providing encouragement and support.  Your family was blessed.

Prayers and love to all during this most difficult time.  Anne is a dear friend of mine as we were Follett colleagues for many years.  I have heard wonderful stories about Dr. Rydzel and came to know how much he loved his family.   Blessings to you all.
