Marilyn, while holding the hand of her youngest, Joe Rohrig, ascended to heaven to join the good souls that have already left this earth on Saturday the 28th of May 2022 at the age 91. She was preceded in death her mother, Elno McKee Scott; father, Victor Scott; sister, Shirley Blume and brother-in-law, George Blume.
Marilyn is survived by her husband and companion of 68 years, Francis James “Pat” Rohrig; her three sons, Timothy P. Rohrig (Beth), Mike Rohrig (Elaine) and Joseph Rohrig (Mike O’Neill, a life-long family friend); four granddaughters, Stephanie Pennoyer (Scott), Lauren Rohrig (Michael Rotondi), Sidney Wilson (Corey), Aryn McKee; grandson, Taylor McKee (Katrina) and great granddaughters, Finley Pennoyer, Marin Pennoyer, Riley Wilson and great grandson, Nico Rotondi.
Marilyn was born in Wichita, KS, where she attended North High School and went on to receive her college degree (BA education) from the University of Wichita. She began her career as an educator of young children.
Marilyn and Pat moved to the Kansas City area and Marilyn took time off from being paid to teach, to raise three boys, and being a surrogate mother for any child in the neighborhood. Marilyn was known to be a caring and giving woman, especially to animals. This meant as the boys were growing up there was also a household full of animals.
Although this world has lost another good woman, heaven welcomes another caring and giving soul.
Visitation will be held from 9am to 11am, Friday, June 3rd at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel in Overland Park, KS with interment to immediately follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a local animal shelter in her name would be welcomed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mcgilleyhoge.com for the Rohrig family.
