Mary A. (Edinger) Porter, 89, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Mew Mark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary was born in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Howard and Grace Mitchell. Mary moved to Kansas City with her first husband, Don Edinger in 1952. She worked for International Paper Company for several years located in Fairfax, Kansas. In 1972, she married Tom Porter and moved to Olathe, Kansas. She worked as an assistant to the Dean of Students at Johnson County Community College for over 20 years before retiring. Mary worked as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years reaching out to those with breast cancer. Mary herself was a three-time cancer survivor. Mary and Tom enjoyed traveling with friends, dancing together and enjoyed time spent at the condominium located at the Lake of the Ozarks. Many friends and family members spent time with Mary and Tom there.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Tom, and her stepson, Tim Porter. She is survived by her two sons, Chuck Edinger and his wife, Suzanne, and Bob Edinger and his wife, Teresa; stepson, Dan Porter and his wife, Rory; daughter-in-law, Evie Porter; grandchildren, Sara Gordon, Bryan Edinger and wife, Amanda, Rebecca Kraft and husband, Kris, Shannon Cordero and husband, Angel, Kelsey Porter, Reagan Porter, T.J. Porter and Paige Porter; and seven great grandchildren, Anna, Betty, Elaina, Millie, Wade, Kaiden and Dylan.
A visitation will begin at 1:00pm on Friday, March 13th with services to follow at 2:00pm at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, Overland Park, Kansas. Her burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery in Prairie Village, Kansas.
