Born in the Philippines, Norma met Pedro Legaspi and their courtship began at the early age of 14. In 1960 she flew to the USA after accepting a position as a pediatric nurse at KU Med Center. This provided her means to assist Pedro in his move to the US and their plan to begin a “better life together in the land of opportunity”. In April of ’62 they married and had four children together. They held hands often and enjoyed dancing. Pedro’s dry humor often left her rolling in tears with laughter. They were a couple bonded in strength by their heritage, faith and family. Norma was a beautiful piano player and singer. She had the rare talent of being able to hear a tune and play it. Not only did she enjoy Filipino food, but she was a tremendous cook. Her favorite movies were Pride and Prejudice and Shall We Dance and her favorite singers were Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban. She leaves behind her an incredible legacy. “Nana” was not only a loving, faithful woman, but a devoted grandmother. She taught the family not to “want” but to be thankful to God for everything they have. It is all a blessing provided from above.
