

Patricia Ann Carey passed away May 1, 2011. Patricia was born July 11, 1929 in Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 5, at Sacred Heart Church, 34th & Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, May 4th, from 6-9 p.m., with the Rosary said at 7:30 at the McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe, Overland Park KS, 66204. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Post 370 American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or the 40 & 8 Nurses Scholarship Fund in care of the American Legion.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 62 years, David; daughters: Gayle (Ed) Grape, Mary (Donald) Vittorino, Regina Hoover, Virginia (Floyd) Umscheid; and son, Aloysius Timothy (Renee); sister, Loretta (Michael) Ross; eleven grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and many relatives and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew; sisters, Mary Poyzer and Kathleen Murphy.
Patricia was a devout Catholic and taught Religious Education for 25 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Daughters of 1812. She was a member and past chaplain of Post 370 of the American Legion Auxiliary. Patricia was a loving, caring woman, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren will always remember spending countless hours at Grandma's house where there was always a bowl of ice cream, frozen waffles, and chicken nuggets. Patricia was given the extraordinary gift of spending her last days surrounded by her family and loved ones. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
