Patricia Ann (MacDonald) Hasemeyer, 95, Lenexa, KS died May 1, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio July 8, 1926 to Mary Leah (Moyer) MacDonald and Winfield James MacDonald. She attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio studying both voice and piano and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music in May, 1948.
Patricia (Pat) married the love of her life, Ernest W. Hasemeyer from Tiffin, Ohio on June 19th, 1948. They had three children: Julie, David and Mary Beth. When her husband was transferred with his job in laboratory sales, the family lived in Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, settling in Overland Park, Kansas in 1968. She gave private piano lessons and had a long, rewarding career as a church organist and choir director, serving in parishes in Houston (St. Patrick’s), Baton Rouge (St. Luke’s) and Overland Park at Christ Episcopal Church, where she was a long-time member and organist/choir director for many years until she retired in the mid 1980s.
Pat was blessed with a long life and very loving family. The most important thing to her was family. She loved us all and was a supreme role model for being a parent and grandparent. We felt her love deeply and constantly. She adored her grandchildren; she was their Nana and had a special, individual relationship with each of them. We were so blessed that she got to know her great-grandchildren. It is bittersweet that Nana did not yet get to meet her youngest great-grandchild, a girl, who will be born on her birthday this coming July. But she knew about the baby and was thrilled. She loved our family gatherings--Thanksgiving and Christmas were the best. She was an excellent musician and treasured her baby grand piano that was a gift from her mother, a college music and choral professor, when she was just eleven years old. She hosted many choir parties around that piano, had a wicked sense of humor, was an avid reader, excellent cook and movie buff (her favorite movies were Gone With the Wind and A Star is Born with Judy Garland) and unbeatable at charades. She treasured our family trips to Ohio to see relatives, going to Ernie’s Navy LST 888 reunions for 27 years and summer vacations in Red River, NM. She loved the many friends she made from church, neighbors, the different places they lived and the ones from Garden Villas, where she and Ernie last lived. She was there for almost 17 years and they loved her.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie (2012) and their son, E. David Hasemeyer (2002). She is survived by daughter, Julie Laird and son-in-law, Thomas Laird; daughter, Mary Beth Meyer and son-in-law, Don Meyer; grandchildren, Michael Laird (Amy), Tara Laird Hensley (Caleb), Katherine Laird Kimbrell (Sean), David J. Hasemeyer (Seana), Aimee Heit (Nick), Andrea Ahmed (A.J.), Megan Meyer; great-grandchildren, Kieran and Cameron Laird; Sheehan and Ila Hensley; Maeve, Winfield, and baby girl Kimbrell; Jake Hasemeyer and Jona Roberts; and Delaney, Hadley, and Kash Heit.
We love you, dearest Mother, Nana and Grandnana beyond all measure. We will miss you so and are greatly blessed that you were ours for a long life, full of love and memories. We will carry on with your love and example. As you always said,“It’ll be grand!”
