Rita Jeanne (Broyles) Thompson went to her heavenly resting place on December 22, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Rita was born on November 7, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; daughter, Pam, and her parent’s, Stancil and Rose. She is survived by her children, Joe (Mary Anne), Bill, Dave (Karyn), Jeanne Dusek (Jim), Jim, and Michelle Hanson (Bill). She also has 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Rita was a devout Catholic and attended mass regularly. She prayed the rosary daily and was a member of the prayer chain, as well as Eucharistic minister to the elderly. Rita worked tirelessly at putting the Lord in charge of those worldly things that she could not control.
Rita’s life was centered around children. For over 25 years she co-taught preschool and kindergarten at Cure’ of Ars Catholic School. After retirement she enjoyed time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She could always be seen either playing, holding, and just loving them.
Rita loved being surrounded by family. Rita was the glue that held the family together. For more than 60 years, the door was open to family, and friends. Whether hosting Chiefs games, holidays parties, pool parties, or family birthday parties, she made sure that all were loved and welcomed.
Rita’s visitation will be held from 9:30am to 10:30am, followed by a Rosary and Celebration of Life Mass to begin at 11:00am on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ascend Hospice.
