Ronald Lamont Coleman, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Golden Years Health Care Facility in Harrisonville, MO. Ron suffered from Parkinson’s Disease for the past 15 years.
A private memorial service will be held for family only at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel in Overland Park, KS.
Ron loved his family and foremost his wife, Carol Sue. Carol and Ron were married for 65 blessed years. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Cyndy O’Hara of Kansas City, MO, Lisa Coleman of Overland Park, KS and Tracy Bailey and her husband, Mark of Lee’s Summit, MO; his seven grandchildren, Lisa Anne Moberly, Michelle Lynn Frisbie, Michael Cole Bailey, Brandy Nicole West, Kara Coleman Giffen, Brittany Danielle Piersee, Cole Daniel Bailey; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his best friend, Charley Moore of Las Vegas, NV, a true and loyal friend and more like a brother for 79 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph M. Coleman and his mother, Mary Isabelle (Bortzfield) Coleman.
He was very proud of the time he served his country as a U.S. Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine. He held military service in high regard. He served in the Amphibious Recon Unit while stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. In 2012, the Marine Corp presented a special certificate of recognition for his contributions to the Marine Corp. The Corp flew the American Flag, in his honor, over the 1st Marine Division Headquarters, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan.
Ron was also a licensed pilot and loved flying the friendly skies. Acrobatics were a big part of his early life as he spent time training for Barnum-Bailey. Once determined that was not a desirable family life he pursued a career in the Glass business. Ron was the owner and operator of City Wide Glass Company for over 35 years in Kansas City, MO. Following the sale of his company, Ron owned and operated Coleman Glass of Lee’s Summit, MO.
Ron was admired by family and friends for his loyalty, kindness, strong will, work ethic, determination and integrity. Regardless of the great health challenges he experienced throughout life, he always appeared with a smile on his face. He put family first and helped those less fortunate. As Mom said more than once, God broke the mold when He made Ronnie.
He will be greatly missed by many. We all benefited from his wisdom and examples set forth as a Christian and God loving person. He was a man of great humility and a man of honor. He always showed gratitude for his life and family. We will miss you Dad, Grandpa, Poppy Ronnie, and Uncle Ronnie. May you rest in peace, now.
