Sally Jo Bisbee of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Saturday, June 9th in her home surrounded by the people she loved. She battled cancer for many years – she stayed strong even when times were the most difficult. Sally Jo found peace from her battle at the age of 63.
Sally Jo was born to parents Clifford and Stella Bisbee on September 27, 1954 in Hutchinson, KS. She grew up with four sisters – Kathy, Teresa, Judy, and Cheryl; and one brother Chuck. The Bisbee family spent most of their lives in the Kansas City area. In 1972 she moved to Emporia, KS where she met John Kretsinger and they married a year later. Sally and John had two children – Matthew and Jennifer.
Sally and John divorced and she eventually moved back to the Kansas City area where she worked as a legal secretary for more than 30 years. Sally Jo reconnected with her high school sweetheart Bill Dodson and they married on October 31, 2013. She retired in 2015 and lived the rest of her life in Kansas City, MO with Bill and her rescue dog Thor.
She was passionate about her family and friends and nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandbabies. She loved reading, coloring, tending to her flowers and “bumminghirds,” and watching her favorite mayhem TV series.
Sally Jo is survived by her husband, Bill Dodson; her daughter, Jennifer Thorpe; her son, Matthew Kretsinger; her sisters, Kathy Bisbee, Teresa Dalcamo-Dresslaer; Judy Hanson, Cheryl Bisbee; her brother Chuck Bisbee; and eight grandchildren.
