Shirley Joan (Webb) Duerksen was born January 20, 1930, in Wichita, Kansas to the late Bert and Ingaborg “Bee” Webb. Shirley went to join her Heavenly Father on June 11, 2019 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Webb. She is survived by her husband, Monty; her sister, Nancy of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Angie (Arlan) of Lenexa, Kansas and Jill (Matt) of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Ben), Lindsay (Andrew), Nicole, Joshua and McKenna and five great grandchildren, Esther, Keira, Micah, Luka and Ivy.
Shirley graduated from Wichita East High School in 1948. After high school, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a long distance operator for five years. In 1953, she worked as a switchboard operator at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, then worked for Social Security Services from 1956-1961. Shirley was united in Holy Matrimony to Monty Duerksen on August 2, 1958 in Newton, Kansas and later moved to Emporia in 1961 to start a family. She was a homemaker for her husband and two daughters until 1979, when she started a job at Citizens Bank and Trust until retirement in 1985.
Shirley enjoyed crocheting, shopping, playing with her grandchildren, listening to music, and cheering for her favorite sports teams on television.
