

She was born in Lakewood, OH on September 21, 1952. She was baptized and ultimately confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cleveland, OH. Cynthia graduated from Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, OH and then received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron. While teaching high school math she obtained her M.B.A. from Cleveland State University. She then pursued her doctorate degree and earned her PhD from Kent State University in 1994.
She was married to David L Ruppel on September 21, 1974. Cynthia had a career as a Professor in Business for The University of Toledo, Rollins College/Crummer Business School, the University of Alabama Huntsville, and Nova Southeastern University where she was ultimately bestowed the honor of being named Professor Emeritus of Business upon her retirement in 2018.
She was a member of many academic organizations and was well published in peer reviewed journals over the course of her career. She had a passion for God, her family, her church family at St. Luke’s and especially in the St. Luke’s adult choir of which she and David were members for almost 20 years. She loved to spend time at Disney World with her family and friends and in the last five years loved to be around her grandson Gabriel who could bring a smile to her face even when no one else could.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Ruppel, her parents William and Irene Prok, and her mother and father-in-law David and Mildred Ruppel.
She is survived by her son Gregory (Sarah) Ruppel, grandson Gabriel Ruppel, sister Susan (William) Fletcher, brother Matthew (Barbara) Prok, sister-in-law Carolyn (+Juan+) d-Avis, and sister-in-law Betty (Rev. Bret) Reedy.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10 AM , February 21, 2025, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Oviedo, FL. Visitation will be held on February 20, 2025 from 6-8 PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
