October 3, 1928 - March 15th 2024
It is with great sadness that we share with Family and Friends the loss of our Beloved Father, March 15th, to complications from surgery. Edgar (Nick) was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on October 3, 1928 to Eddie & Bertha Ellen Nichols.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Violet of 72 years. He is survived by his son Robert Nichols of Topeka, Kansas, his daughter Vicki Wall and her husband Stephen of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Ronald Nichols and his wife Karen of Astor Florida. He has 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren.
He lived most all of his life in Ottumwa. He worked for almost 40 years for David Carpenter Senior and for Dave Jr. as a manager for Super Crop Fertilizer, Superior Block and Home Oil, building and maintaining Home Oil Stations in the state retiring in 1988.
He also was a Square Dance caller for many years calling around the Midwest and spent winters in Alamo Texas as the Alamo Rec caller. He also taught many people over the years to Square Dance and Round Dance where they met and had many Wonderful friends. My parents moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 2000 to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren and continued to call square dances until 2011 when he retired from calling.
He spent a lot of time with my mom fishing for Crappie on Grand Lake and having fish frys. They loved doing puzzles together which he was still doing. He just completed a 750 piece puzzle a week or so ago… And of course enjoying time with family… We are all going to miss him but he had a Wonderful life and we are filled with lots of Wonderful memories of our years together.
He was still in pretty good health at 95. He was even still living by himself, still driving to the grocery store
(which he just got his Florida drivers license and car tags for his car), doing his own laundry, fixing his own meals (which he learned to do) and got pretty good at. And his mind was better than all of us….. We have not decided on a Celebration of his life date for him yet.
He was cremated and will be laid to rest with mom's ashes at a later date.
Thank you all for sharing his Wonderful Life with you over the years. You can send cards to me to be shared with family to 1724 S Date Ave, Broken Arrow, Ok 74012
